Key takeaways
- The survey found that 44.5% of respondents said they had tried generative AI. In 1 year, the rate rose by 11.2 percentage points.
- Among the services used, ChatGPT was most widely used at 41.8%.
- The share who said they trust information and results from AI was 54.7%. As more people try AI and trust responses exceed half, use of AI to look for information may also increase.
Survey results - How many people have tried generative AI?
These results are from the Ministry of Science and ICT’s 「2025 인터넷이용실태조사」 (announced 2026.3.31; covering 22,671 households nationwide and household members aged 3 or older - 50,750 people).
- Experience rate: 2024: 33.3% → 2025: 44.5%
- Services used (multiple responses): ChatGPT 41.8% · Gemini 9.8% · Copilot 2.2% · CLOVA X 2.0%
- By occupation: Office workers had the highest experience rate, at 71.9%
- Reasons for not using generative AI: Among nonusers (55.5%), 49.5% said they had “no interest or need.” Among people in their 60s, 25.3%, and those aged 70 and older, 26.1%, said they “didn’t know how to use it.”
- Trust: 54.7% said they trust information and results from AI
The Institute’s interpretation - Where will patients ask their first question?
This survey covers generative AI use in general and does not ask separately about health or hospital-related questions. The points below are the Institute’s interpretation, not findings reported in the survey.
Nearly one in two people, by the survey’s measure, has tried generative AI. Hospitals should also start reviewing AI as a possible source of new patients.
- Patients now have one more place to turn with their first questions. As more people try generative AI, more patients may ask AI about symptoms or which hospital to choose before seeking care.
- Start by reviewing the patient-source field. If it does not include AI, intake records alone will make this shift difficult to identify.
- Patterns may differ by patient group. Experience was highest among office workers, while people aged 60 and older were more likely to say they did not know how to use AI. Start by reviewing the patient groups your hospital serves.
What should you check when patients ask their first question?
- Does the source-of-visit field in new-patient intake forms or consultation records include AI?
- Are the answers accurate when you ask AI about your hospital by name and its main services?
- Are your specialties, medical staff, location, and hours clearly described in writing on your website?
Start by adding AI to your intake form and asking AI about your hospital directly. As those records build up, you can gradually see where and how patients find the information they need to make decisions.
